RESEARCH FELLOW ROLE
We are seeking qualified candidates for Research Fellow positions with a PhD to lead and contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of Political Science, Sociology, Public Policy, Economics, International Relations or Management. Research Fellow Requirements
Employment Type: Full-Time (Contract or Project-Based)
Location: Penang / Hybrid / Remote
PhD in Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Public Policy, International Relations, Economy, Development Studies, or a closely related fields.
Minimum 2 years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.
Preferred experience working in thinks tank, Research Institutes, universities, or civil society organisations
Proven publication record or policy impact experience
Leadership in managing research teams or projects
Strong foundation in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
Demonstrated ability to lead research project, produce high-quality publications, and translate complex ideas into accessible insights
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
Fluent in English and Bahasa Melayu, both written and spoken.
Knowledge of Malaysia or Southeast Asian political and social context is highly preferred
Tracks record of engagement with policy, advocacy, or community-based research is an added advantage

Key Responsibilities Research Fellow Role
Design, lead, apply research grant, and implemented research projects aligned with Aegis Research's thematic areas.
Conduct advanced data analysis (qualitative and quantitative, or mixed-methods)
Publish research outputs in the form of policy briefs, reports, working papers, and journal articles.
Supervise and mentor Research Officers, assistants, and interns.
Engage in public discourse and present finding to government, civil society, and academic audiences
Contribute to grant proposal, research partnership, and donor reporting.
Provide intellectual leadership on themes such as political participation, governance, citizenship, social equity, and rights-based development.
RESEARCH OFFICER ROLE
We are hiring a Research Officer to support the design, implementation, and analysis of research project in the field of political sciences, sociology, public policy, and related disciplines. Master's degree or equivalent in Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Policy, Economics, International Relations, Management, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in conducting research (academic, applied, or policy)
Strong command of research methodologies, both qualitative (interviews, case studies, thematic analysis) and quantitative (surveys, statistics, SPSS, Stata) and etc.
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to draw out policy and social implications from research data
Proficiency in English and Bahasa Melayu both written and spoken
Able to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks and less monitoring.
Familiar with Malaysian-Southeast Asia socio-political and socio-economy issues and interest in civic engagement, governance, or inclusive development is a strong advantage.
Ability to work independently and collaborative in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design and planning of research projects, including literature review, research questions, and methodology.
Conduct fieldwork such as interviews, focus group discussions, and surveys.
